Bringing Transformative EI Into the World
From research-backed assessment instruments to scholarships that fund the next generation of Transformative EI scholars — here is how the TEI Foundation extends the work into practice.
Tools for Measuring What Matters
The TEI framework rests on a family of research-validated assessment instruments developed by Nelson, Low, and colleagues. Each measures a different facet of emotional intelligence — and each is delivered through Emotional Intelligence Learning Systems.
Personal Excellence Map
Personal, emotional, relational, and life-skill development across the full PERL framework.
The flagship TEI instrument — a comprehensive positive assessment that maps the 13 key emotional intelligence skills underlying personal excellence. Used widely in higher education, leadership development, and professional coaching.
Skills for Career and Life Effectiveness
Career and life-readiness skills for students preparing for higher education and professional life.
A student-focused assessment that brings TEI principles into career planning and life-skills education. Often used in high school, college, and first-generation student support programs.
Emotional Skills Assessment Process
Specific emotional intelligence skills, attitudes, and behaviors across the PERL competency domains.
A research-derived self-assessment that identifies emotional skill strengths and growth areas — the core TEI assessment for academic, career, and personal development contexts.
Additional Assessments
Three further TEI instruments extend the framework into relationships, personality style, and personal well-being.
-
RSM Relationship Skills Map
Measures personal and intimate relationship effectiveness. Used in marriage and family therapy, couples coaching, and relational education.
-
LSTI Life Style Type Indicator
Identifies personality type across four dimensions — Believer, Creator, Achiever, Supporter — as an accessible entry point to TEI.
-
WBAP Well-Being Assessment Process
Connects emotional intelligence skills to physical health, emotional health, and overall life satisfaction.
All TEI assessments are delivered through Emotional Intelligence Learning Systems — the publishing and distribution partner for the TEI framework.

The TEI Center of Excellence
The TEI Center of Excellence is the dynamic learning and knowledge sharing platform — bringing decades of TEI research, courses, certifications, and community into a single, accessible home. Our goal is to make the practice of Transformative Emotional Intelligence available to learners, educators, businesses, governments, and leaders worldwide – and to transform organizations by embedding TEI into their culture.
A world where learned and intentionally applied transformative emotional intelligence drives how we live, work, lead, and change together.
